Forest School

We firmly believe that out-of-classroom learning is of enormous benefit to children.  Forest School at St Michael’s is designed to enhance, enrich and complement our day to day curriculum in both Foundation Stage and Key Stage One.

Forest School times are not only fun and ideal for getting vital exercise and fresh air, they also help children develop self-esteem, independence and self-confidence and develop new skills. Children become more courageous and considerate. They learn to work with others and respect the world around them. There is much evidence that the Forest School experience has had a really positive impact on life in the classroom and our school community is dedicated to keeping it central to our ethos.

Each class will enjoy Forest School sessions every other week on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon. We will continue to make use of our outside grassy areas and the wild pond area, and from time to time will explore the wooded grounds of nearby West Lodge.
